‘Irie Feelings’ hitmaker Rupie Edwards
Today, all of us at Randy’s mourn the passing of a true pillar of Jamaican music, Rupie Edwards.
Rupie was more than a producer — he was a sound craftsman who helped shape reggae. His dedication, bold creativity, and deep musical sense defined an era that still inspires artists today.
In 1975 he broke new ground with “Irie Feeling,” part of what’s seen as Jamaica’s first hit one-riddim album. That release helped set the pattern for many hit singles built on shared rhythms— a foundation that still drives reggae.
His work was part of the Kingston scene that gave rise to Randy’s, where studios, record shops, and sound systems fueled the culture. Rupie stood with the era’s pioneers, bringing the same innovation and authenticity tied to Randy’s legacy.
We remember him for the records he made and the vision he gave Jamaican music. His influence lives on in every riddim, version, and artist who builds on that foundation.
Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and everyone he touched.
Rest in power, Rupie Edwards. Your legacy will echo through reggae. — Randy’s Music Group
